BLOOM ‘N GROWS’ HISTORY

Bloom ‘n Grow Garden Society was the vision of Gretchen Boyd, a longtime resident of Oakland. Gretchen's dream became a reality in 1997 with an enthusiastic group of women interested in gardening and fellowship. No one realized how quickly our membership would grow. We joined the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs that year.

Pride in our community and eager workers soon guided our Bloom 'n Grow members in all kinds of worthy directions, Habitat for Humanity, Wekiva’s Summer Youth Camp, the Path of Life (Bloom ‘n Grow’s ongoing project) and Scholarships for Horticulture Students.

During our fourth year, "Spring Fever in the Garden" took place as our only money making venture. Dedicated leaders and members have made this event a continuing success, with the help of the City of Winter Garden giving full support.

Bloom ‘n Grow Garden Society is currently planning our seventh annual “Spring Fever in the Garden” with a two day event for the first time. The Spring Fever committee continually brings new ideas, creates interest and encourages widespread participation making all the hard work worthwhile.

With Bloom ‘n Grow’s leadership direction and our members' commitment to support our cause, this tenth anniversary of Bloom ‘n Grow and our seventh “Spring Fever in the Garden” will be a great success.

In September 2006, Bloom ‘n Grow Garden Society honored three of their members by placing them in the Florida Federation of Garden Club’s Hall of Fame. They are Gretchen Boyd, for being the Founding President of the club; Jackie Brown, for establishing and continually chairing the club’s “Path of Life”, and Sue Crabtree, for her dedication in chairing the “Spring Fever in the Garden” festival.
